Art
Our art program fosters creativity, develops artistic skills, builds confidence with artistic expression, and cultivates a multi-cultural appreciation for the arts.
In art class, students participate in inspiring projects involving drawing, painting, weaving, clay, sculpture, found and recycled art. Instruction focuses on concepts such as texture, space and composition, dimension, symmetry, colors and shades, balance and proportion. Older students continue to advance their skills in these areas, while learning to use digital and multi-media tools for artistic expression.
Art is also incorporated into daily learning in the classroom. In literacy, students create visual pieces to represent ideas or demonstrate understandings. During STEM learning, students use artistic approaches to design, test and pilot new ideas, concepts and structures.
Music and Theatre
Our music curriculum incorporates songs, instruments, movement, dance, and drama. Students learn age-appropriate concepts related to beat and rhythm, harmony and melody, tempo and dynamics. Music is presented from a multi-cultural perspective, as students are exposed to musical sounds from around the globe.
Music is infused into much of the daily curriculum in the younger grades. Older students study music history and theory. They learn to read and compose music using traditional methods, as well as digital tools.
Physical Education & Wellness
Students participate in games, activities and challenges to develop motor and movement skills, endurance, strength, balance, coordination and flexibility. Emphasis is placed on the concepts of game concepts and rules, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendly competition.
Age-appropriate lessons related to health, nutrition, mindfulness and exercise are incorporated into physical education class.
