In the early grades, Spanish instruction utilizes an immersion-based approach that emphasizes conversational skills. Students practice their Spanish during authentic learning experiences and interactive activities.
We use a spiraling curriculum, so that students continue to practice previously learned skills and concepts, while gaining new knowledge and understandings. Reading and writing in Spanish are incorporated at the older grades, as students study more advanced vocabulary and grammar.
The study of Spanish speaking cultures is an integral part of our language program. Each class learns about the history, geography, food, art, music and traditions of a particular Spanish speaking country. This provides a rich context for language learning.
