Vermont Day School is pleased to announce the addition of a Merit Scholarship program for prospective students entering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Fall 2025. Scholarships are awarded to motivated learners with strong academic skills, who exemplify the guiding principles of Vermont Day School. We hope that merit scholarship awards will make a Vermont Day School education more accessible to more families in our community.
How to apply:
Prospective students are invited to apply for the 2025-2026 school year. To apply, please use this digital merit scholarship application to submit two short answer responses – one parent response and one student response:
- How will your child benefit from a Vermont Day School education? (Parent)
- Why would you like to attend Vermont Day School? (Student)
Merit Scholarship Applications will be considered once all parts of a child’s application to Vermont Day School are complete. Applications can be submitted using the digital merit scholarship application or responses can be emailed directly to Libby Macdonald, Director of Admissions (lmacdonald@vtdayschool.org).
Frequently Asked Questions
Why 5th-8th grade?
We believe that these are transformative years in a child’s education. Students are developing more complex moral reasoning and critical thinking, and have endless capacity for creativity and leadership. Building confidence, social-emotional awareness and strong academic skills are paramount in these years and central to a Vermont Day School education.
What is the difference between a merit scholarship and tuition assistance?
Merit scholarships are not based on financial need. In contrast, tuition assistance is based on a family’s demonstrated need and require a family to complete an online application through Student and School Services, using Vermont Day School’s code (9089).
Can siblings apply?
Yes, all new students applying to Vermont Day School for grades 5-8 are eligible to apply, even if a family has another child already at the school.
