Vermont Day School closed its campus on March 13th, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 18th, the school launched its Continuous Learning program to allow students to continue to advance their academic skills, and maintain connections with their classmates and teachers.
Vermont Day School’s priorities for Continuous Learning are to:
- Promote the physical and mental health of our students, families, faculty and staff
- Stay connected as a community and preserve the strength of our relationships (student-student, student-teacher, parent-teacher, teacher-teacher and school-community)
- Maintain and advance academic learning, while taking into account the unique opportunities and constraints that exist during our current situation
Each day, students follow a suggested schedule that consists of classes in core content areas of Literacy, Math and STEM, along with Spanish, Art, Music and PE. Elementary students are using SeeSaw for Schools as their digital platform for learning, while Middle School students are continuing with Google Classroom. Each class has daily video calls with their teachers, where they may participate in literature circles together, work on a collaborative project in STEM or simply enjoy lunch together!
Small class sizes enable teachers to personalize the Continuous Learning curriculum to each student’s needs during this time.
