September 8- First Day of School!
We are SO excited to welcome all students to Vermont Day School on Tuesday, September 8th. The countdown is on!
September 8-11- Half Days for Grades 5-7
Students in Grades 5-7 will have half days from September 8th-11th. Dismissal times will be staggered by class between 12:00-12:30 pm. This will allow students to build up their stamina for the full day, and to get used to the new routines and protocols that we have in place. While we are all excited to be together, wearing a mask and physically distancing from our classmates and teachers is going to feel different and strange at first! It is our goal to make the transition as seamless as possible, and to support the variety of emotions that will come along with the transition back to school. To that end, all students will have half days for the first week of school. Grades Pre K-4 will also ease into a full day during the second week of school.
September 8-15- Half Days for Pre-K to Grade 4
Students in Pre-K through Grade 4 will have half days from September 8th-15th. Dismissal times will be staggered by class between 12:00-12:30 pm. This will allow students to build up their stamina for the full day, and to get used to the new routines and protocols that we have in place. Vermont Day School to Add High Quality Pre-K Program in 2020
Vermont Day School plans to add one Pre-Kindergarten classroom to open at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. Part of the strategic growth of the school, our Pre-Kindergarten program seeks to:
- Provide a high quality Pre-K education that is based on the principles of child development and the mission of Vermont Day School
- Support the cognitive and social-emotional growth of students
- Foster a caring community of learners
- Offer an environment that promotes problem-solving and exploration through hands on activities and play
- Provide opportunities for students to explore their interests and curiosities
- Integrate art, music, STEM, and creativity into everyday learning
- Document student learning and growth through assessment and observation
For this school year, the program will be full school day, with full week and limited partial week spots available. Click HERE for more program details. To add your name to the interest list and to receive application details when they become available, please contact Faith James, Director of Admissions.
Congrats to Inaugural 8th Grade Graduates!
On Thursday, June 11 Vermont Day School made history by graduating its inaugural class of 8th graders. Held outside at All Soul’s Interfaith Gathering in Shelburne, graduates and their parents were joined by Head of School, Sage Bagnato, Board Chair, Ed Wilkens, and their Middle School teachers.
Wilkens addressed the class by thanking them for helping to shape Vermont Day School into what it is today. He encouraged them to keep the connections going that they have made academically and socially as a community at Vermont Day School. Each student was then introduced and gave their own remarks and reflections on their time at VDS. Common themes were friendships, academic preparedness, and a welcoming community:
“VDS welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home”
“Each one of my teachers has made me grow as a person.”
“My teacher…she understood me and gave me confidence.”
“VDS has shown me to be kind, respectful, and caring to others.”
“I’m more prepared for high school than I ever thought I could be.”
Head of School, Sage Bagnato, made an Address to the Class of 2020 and then graduates were presented with a diploma and VDS inscribed Danforth Pewter keepsake, starting the first of many traditions at Vermont Day School. Graduates will go on to Champlain Valley Union High School and Rice Memorial High School. Congratulations to the VDS Class of 2020!
May 29 – Outdoor Education Day with Hosmer Point & Shelburne Farms
Our annual school overnight trip may be canceled this year. But John and Claire are still excited to make a virtual outdoor education day happen for us. Outdoor Education is such an important element of Vermont Day School. In addition, our younger students will be re-connecting with the outdoor education specialists from Shelburne Farms. This is a partnership that has been in place all year long and we are excited to see our Shelburne Farms friends again! We can’t wait to see what is in store!
May 30 – VDS Green Up Day
We may not be able to all come together to green up the school as we normally do. But let’s join together for VT Green Up Day and green up where we are. VDS Strong!
June 3-10- VDS Spirit Week
We’ve got spirit yes we do! We’ve got spirit how ’bout you?! This is one VDS tradition that can still happen from home! We can’t wait to tell you more!
June 5 – VDS Virtual Cabaret
Join us for a virtual version of the VDS annual tradition. Class songs and talents of all sorts will be welcome as part of this fabulous show!
