September 2- Labor Day (No School)
In honor of Labor Day, Vermont Day School will be closed on Monday, September 2nd. School will resume on Tuesday, September 3rd.
May 9- Spring Open House
Please join us for our Spring Open House on Thursday, May 9 from 9:00-10:30 am! This is a great opportunity to visit our school, meet faculty and staff and observe innovative learning in action. Contact Libby Macdonald, Director of Admission, to RSVP to this event.
May 10- VDS Jog-a-Thon
On Friday, May 10th, students in grades 2-7 will participate in a jog-a-thon to raise money for their upcoming outdoor education trip to Hosmer Point. Prior to the event, participants will gather pledges for the number of laps they run in 45 minutes. Our K/1 students will be cheering them on every lap of the way! Go runners!
May 18- 4th Annual Spring Carnival
Mark your calendars for our 4th annual Spring Carnival coming up on Saturday, May 18th from 1:00-3:30 pm (rain date is May 19). This fun afternoon will offer carnival games, dunk tank, face painting, bake sale and more. Fun for the whole family! Admission is $5/child (adults are free). VDS Students Attend Youth Rally for the Planet
Vermont Day School 4th-7th grade students joined hundreds of other young students around Vermont at the Youth Rally for the Planet in Montpelier in early May. The students participated in the march, visited exhibits and booths, listened to speakers and talked with legislators. It was a great opportunity for our students to speak up and speak out!
All School PBL Share!
In early April, parents and community members attend Vermont Day School’s annual all school project-based learning share. This was a wonderful time for students to showcase their learning from their latest STEM and Global Studies projects. In the morning, students shared their work with each other, allowing older students and younger students to visit each other’s classrooms and celebrate their work. In the afternoon, parents, board and community members were invited to visit the spectacular classroom exhibits.
The k/1 class was transformed into a museum of Inuit artifacts. The 2/3 class designed a Maker Market, selling their creative wares. The 3/4 students applied their learning about architecture and the Medieval Times to compose historical fiction stories, play their characters, and build a life sized Medieval village. The 4/5 class was transformed into a galaxy where visitors could learn about fascinating elements of outer space. They also exhibited their own quotes and paintings inspired from their unit on civil rights. The 6/7 class used their unit on social justice to create their own socially responsible business ideas. All in all, the students’ work was impressive!
May 27- Memorial Day (No School)
Vermont Day School will be closed on Monday, May 27th in honor of Memorial Day.
May 29-31- Hosmer Point Outdoor Education Trip
Students in grades 2-7 will participate in an outdoor education trip to Hosmer Point in beautiful Craftsbury Commons, VT, where they will have the opportunity to experience new activities (such as archery, mountain biking, paddle boarding and more!), spend time in nature with friends, and sleep away from home. It is a fun and memorable experience for all and a definite highlight from the year!
C.L.I.C. Week- April 15-19
During our Spring C.L.I.C. (Create, Innovate, Learn, Celebrate), students will work with a local business on a project with a unified theme. The business will provide our students with a real-world problem to solve. Check back soon for updates on our CLIC week project! Past partnerships have included Lake Champlain Chocolates, Seventh Generation and Burton Snowboards.
Spring Vacation- April 22-26
Vermont Day School will be closed for Spring Vacation for the week of April 22-26. School will resume on Monday, April 29.
Hosmer Point Parent Meeting- May 1
Vermont Day School parents of students in Grades 2-7 are invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday, May 1 at 8:15 am about our upcoming outdoor education trip to Hosmer Point. This is an opportunity to learn more about the trip and ask any questions that you have. We look forward to seeing you then!
