November 20-24- Thanksgiving Week (No School)
Vermont Day School will be closed the week of November 20-24, 2017 for the Thanksgiving Week holiday. School will resume on Monday, November 27th.

Early Humans Cave Painting
As an integrated global studies and art project, the 3/4 class created an early humans cave painting to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of adaptations that early humans used to survive. Here they are showing their painting to their schoolmates!
Grandparents Day!
On October 11th, Vermont Day School welcomed 40 grandparents and friends to Vermont Day School. After visiting together for morning coffee and receiving a welcome from our Head of School and Board Chair, grandparents had the chance to participate in activities in their grandchildren’s classrooms. Fun was had by all! To conclude the visit, we gathered together to hear musical performances that the students prepared. Thank you to all our amazing grandparents who traveled far and wide to come for this day. It was very special!
October 29- Shelburne Halloween Parade
Join the festivities! Vermont Day School will be participating in Shelburne’s Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 29th @ 2 pm. During after school hours, parents will host “design and build” days to work on our float. Hope to see you there!
November 5- Fall Open House
Join us for our Fall Open House on Sunday, November 5th @ 3 pm. This is an opportunity to meet our teachers, visit the school and learn what makes Vermont Day School unique! Classrooms Launch new STEM Projects
This week, our classrooms launched their first project-based units of the school year in STEM. The hands-on, inquiry based units are as follows: Float your Boat! Density & Buoyancy (K/1), Astronomy (2/3), Evolution & Adaptation (3/4) and Kitchen Chemistry (5/6). Lots of exciting learning ahead…..be sure to check back for more updates on their projects!
International Day of Peace
On September 21st, students honored the United Nation’s International Day of Peace by “planting” pinwheels for peace and participating in a variety of peace-related activities and discussions.
Middle School Cross-Country
We are excited to launch our first official sports team- middle school cross-country! Led by Coach Erin Capps, the team has been practicing on trails in the area and is looking forward to competing in several meets this fall. Go VT Day!
October 11- Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Wednesday, October 11th is Vermont Day School’s annual Grandparent & Special Friends Day! The morning will begin at 8:15 am with a welcome coffee followed by classroom visits. This is an opportunity for grandparents & special friends to visit our classrooms and engage in hands-on learning. The morning will conclude at 10:00 am. October 19 & 20- Professional Development and Conferences (no school)
There is no school for students on Thursday, October 19th and Friday, October 20th. October 19th is a Professional Development day for faculty and staff. On October 20th, we will be hosting parent/teacher conferences. Look for additional information coming soon in our school newsletter.
