After School Lego Robotics Team- Coding in Action!
Our after school Lego Robotics, Jr. team has been busy this fall learning how to program Lego robots. They are participating in First Lego League’s challenge and will soon be showcasing their work at an upcoming Lego competition. Students are loving the challenge so far!
November 21-25 Thanksgiving Vacation (No School)
Vermont Day School is closed the week of November 21-25. We hope that you and your families enjoy the week! School will resume on Monday, November 28th.
November 28- Entry Forms Due for Gingerbread Structure Competition
Calling all gingerbread house designers and builders! Create a gingerbread structure to submit in our 1st annual gingerbread building competition. This year’s theme is “Imaginary Places!” Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories, including “Most Creative Use of Materials” and “Most Unique Interpretation of Theme.” To enter, please complete an on-line entry form by November 28th. Happy building!
Shelburne Parade Halloween Float!
On Sunday, October 30th, Vermont Day School students and parents created a Halloween float to ride in the Town of Shelburne Halloween parade. It was a super fun afternoon for all! Thank you to our families for your help and for all the blue and green razzle dazzle!
2/3 Class Hosts Chamber of Commerce
As a culmination of their first project-based unit on Vermont, the 2nd and 3rd grade students hosted a Chamber of Commerce events for parents and schoolmates. They each researched an aspect of Vermont and created a brochure to inform people about this unique feature of our state (i.e. Swimming Holes, Maple Syrup & Cheese, Skiing etc.). They also sent brochures to family, friends and leaders who live outside our state to entice them to come visit. One student mailed his brochure to the President and is eagerly awaiting a response!
November 6- Fall Open House
Please join us for our Fall Open House on Sunday, November 6th at 3 pm! This is an opportunity to visit our school, meet our teachers and learn what makes Vermont Day School unique. Children are welcome to attend. We look forward to meeting you!
November 15- Parent Committee Meeting
Please join us for our next Parent Committee meeting Tuesday, November 15th at 8:15 am. All are welcome to plan school wide events, discuss community service and fundraising opportunities, and help build school culture and community!
4/5 Class Creates iMovies for Vermont Adult Learning
As part of unit on “We the People,” 4th and 5th graders are learning about the purpose, function and history of our government, as well as the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens. The class conducted extensive research, and then used the information they learned to create iMovies for adults that have recently arrived in Vermont from all over the world. On October 26, the 4th/5th grade class presented their iMovies to staff members at Vermont Adult Learning.
October 27- Project-based Learning Presentation for Parents and Educators
We hope you will join us on Thursday, October 27th @ 6pm for an engaging presentation: “Motivation and Success with Project-Based Learning.” Erin Capps, 4/5 Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator, will discuss what PBL is, why this approach is so engaging for students, and how it prepares them for their future. October 30 and 31- Halloween Celebrations
On Sunday, October 30th, Vermont Day School families will participate in the Town of Shelburne Halloween Parade. Be sure to keep an eye out for our school float!
On Monday, October 31st, parents are invited to join us for coffee and conversation from 8:15-8:45 am. After, we will begin our annual Halloween Parade. Students will also perform a Halloween-themed play that they wrote in Spanish. We hope you will join us for this fun-filled morning!
