May 26- Mini-Milers Race @ Burlington Waterfront
Our mini-milers have been working hard each week to build their endurance, speed, running skills and sportsmanship. On May 26, they will have the opportunity to participate in the mini-milers race at the Burlington waterfront.
May 30-June 1- Hosmer Point Trip
2nd-6th graders at Vermont Day School will participate in an overnight outdoor education trip to Hosmer Point in Craftsbury Commons!
Researching Global Water Issues in 5/6
Inspired by Linda Sue Park’s book, A Long Walk To Water, the 5/6 class explored water issues around the globe. They each researched a contemporary water issue in Global Studies, and used the design thinking process in STEM to engineer a potential solution. Topics of study included: Water shortage in Capetown, water contamination in South Sudan, freezing water pipes in Eastern Kentucky, water contamination in Flint, Michigan and Cyanobacteria growth in Lake Champlain.
Inventions & Energy Efficiency!
The 2/3 class has been busy learning about inventions and how they have changed over time. To demonstrate their learning, each student designed an art piece with a working circuit. Meanwhile……the 3/4 class has been immersed in the world of energy efficiency! Their multi-faceted project included the creation of iMovies and posters to inform others about the importance of energy efficiency, inventions to demonstrate innovative ways to generate renewable energy and a personal challenge for energy conservation at home.
Community Mapping in K/1
As a culmination of their unit on mapping, transportation and forces of motion, the K/1 class invited parents and friends to view the pamphlets and maps they created to highlight an important place in our local community. In addition, they showcased the innovative forms of transportation that they engineered in STEM class.
April 7- Benefit Bash at Hotel Vermont
Join us for our annual Benefit Event at Hotel Vermont! The evening will include great conversation, camaraderie and food, as well an opportunity to bid on exciting silent and live auction items. Hope to see you there!
April 9-13- Spring CLIC Week!
Vermont Day School is excited to partner with Lake Champlain Chocolate for our Spring CLIC week! Students will learning about the concept of Fair Trade: what is means, how it works, and how it impacts local and global communities. Their challenge will be to create educational materials for Lake Champlain Chocolate to educate others about the concept of Fair Trade. Be sure to check back for photos from the week!
April 14- Hosmer Point Bake Sale
Be sure to stop by the I-89 Williston rest stops to support the 3/4 class’ bake sale fundraiser for Hosmer Point! The class will host the fundraiser from 10 am-4 pm on Saturday, April 14th on both the north and south sides of the Williston rest stops.
April 23-27- Spring Vacation/No School
Vermont Day School will be closed for Spring Vacation April 23-27. We will resume on Monday, April 30. Enjoy the week!
May 5- Green Up Day
