At Vermont Day School we know that the best thing we can do for our students is to foster a faculty that also loves to learn and grow. This summer and fall, several faculty were engaged in exceptional professional development opportunities.
The entire faculty and staff engaged in a workshop with Lisa Bedinger, of the South Burlington Community Justice Center, on Restorative Practice. This was an incredible bonding experience for all and reinforced the VDS philosophy around how we communicate, acknowledge and respect differences, make intentional positive connections between all of our constituents, and how we work with each other in times of conflict.
Marie Fetters, was selected to attend Project Seasons for Young Learners: Cultivating Joy & Wonder! 25 educators from all over the world — Haiti, Missouri, Nigeria, California, Vermont, New York, Maryland, and New Hampshire – gathered at Shelburne Farms for this professional learning workshop for early childhood educators. Using sustainability as a lens, participants retooled and reinspired their existing classroom curriculum with fresh ideas from their time here together, using the Farm as THEIR classroom. The experience will directly enhance the K-1 curriculum. Through a new partnership, this class will spend two full days a month at Shelburne Farms!
Jonnie, Marie, and Erin attended Greg Tang’s New England Math Plus Institute. The theme of this year’s conference were the three F’s – focus, fundamentals, and fun! Greg Tang is an award winning author and is called the “math missionary” for the dedication and passion he has shown in sharing his love of math with students, teachers and parents. Our teachers are excited to bring this energy back to the classroom!
Ida is excited to attend the Vermont Art Teachers Association conference in Lake Morey this month. She is a HUGE fan of key note speaker Cassie Stephens and looks forward to bringing her inspiration and colorful passion for art education back to VDS.
