K-8 Students and parents are welcome to stop by your classrooms during the 1:00-2:30 pm window to say hello to teachers and see your classrooms! Please note that these visits are optional. If you have specific questions related to your child, it is best to set up an individual meeting time. For PreK families: we will send out a sign-up shortly to schedule individual student/parent classroom visits with Emily and Molly.

VDS Partners With King Arthur Baking Company for CLIC Week
It was recently CLIC week at VDS! CLIC stands for Create, Learn, Innovate, and Celebrate. CLIC week is a unique opportunity for VDS students to engage in a whole school project that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication. For this CLIC week, we are thrilled to work with King Arthur Baking Company! King Arthur is a Vermont based Certified B corporation with a commitment to quality, sustainability and equity. Given to us by King Arthur, the authentic challenge that students addressed was: How can we attract more young people to bake? Each class approached this question in a variety of developmentally appropriate ways. Younger classes focused on marketing, design and product development, while older classes added additional layers to incorporate topics, such as food justice and sustainable baking. Every class had an opportunity for a field trip, and of course, baking!
At the end of the week, students presented their ideas (virtually) to Molly Lawrence, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at King Arthur Baking Company. We are grateful to King Arthur for partnering with us on this project.
VDS Students Win State Essay Contest
Four Vermont Day School Students Place in State Essay Contest
Congratulations to Vermont Day School 8th grader Oonagh Guyer (South Burlington), the winner of this year’s Lincoln Essay
contest! Hosted annually by Hildene, President Lincoln’s family’s estate, 8th grade students from across the state were asked to submit essays focused on civil discourse and difficult subjects. The topic of this year’s essay was censorship and the rise of book bans in the United States.
In addition to Oonagh’s top place finish, Vermont Day School students Jesse Kim (Burlington) placed third and Margot Dator (Shelburne) and Parker Wildey (Charlotte) were finalists. A total of 198 essays were submitted. On May 21st, Oonagh and Jesse will travel to Manchester, Vermont to celebrate their accomplishments.
