April 17 – Middle School Student Visit Day
Prospective middle school students entering 6th-8th grade in Fall 2024 are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 17 to experience VDS first hand! April 18 – Lower School Play “Peaceful Penguin Village”
VDS PreK-3rd grade students will perform “Peaceful Penguin Village” play on Thursday, April 18th. There are two shows for parents, grandparents and guests @ 8:30 am (K/1 and 2/3) and at 9:30 am (PreK). We can’t wait for this very fun performance! Students are loving practicing the songs and lines from this very sweet show with a wonderful message!
March 1 – Merit Scholarship Applications Due
Vermont Day School is pleased to announce the addition of a Merit Scholarship program for prospective students entering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Fall 2024. One year scholarships, in the amount of $5,000, are awarded to motivated learners with strong academic skills, who exemplify the guiding principles of Vermont Day School.
Merit Scholarship Applications will be considered once all parts of a child’s application to Vermont Day School are complete, including the teacher recommendations and school visit day. Scholarship applications are due March 1st, 2024. Once complete, parent and student short answer responses should be emailed to Libby Macdonald, Director of Admissions (lmacdonald@vtdayschool.org). 2nd Annual Vermont Invention Fair
This year’s Vermont Invention Fair was full of creativity and problem-solving! The young inventors did a impressive job of coming up with an innovative idea to solve a real world problem. Congratulations to all the participants on a job well done, and an additional shout out to Shannon Capps, Theo Gonyaw and Whitaker Newton for being selected for the next round of competition at the U.S. Nationals! Thank you to Harbour Industries for being the Visionary Sponsor of the Vermont Invention Fair and to Portable Mini-Golf for providing family entertainment!
March 8 – First Friday Parent Coffee
Vermont Day School Parents are invited to join us for coffee, baked goods and casual conversation on Friday, March 8th after morning drop-off (8:00/8:15 am). We hope to see you there. All are welcome!
March 8 – K-5 STEM Share & 6-8 Science Fair
All are invited to join us on Friday’s March 8th @ 2 pm for a showcase of student learning! The K-5 student swill share their projects in STEM, while the 6th-8th grade students will present their science fair experiments. We hope to see you there!
March 18-28 – Food Drive Hosted by 4/5 Class
Our 4th/5th grade class is organizing our annual Food Drive to benefit the Shelburne Food Drive from March 18-28. Stay tuned for more information from the students as to what items are needed most by the Food Shelf and how families can help. Last year, the VDS community collected over 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food and hygiene items – let’s see if we can top that this year!
March 21 & 22 – Parent Teacher Conferences
VDS Teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents during conferences to talk about student progress! 4th-8th grade students are invited to join the conferences as well. Portfolios will be coming home before conferences so that parents have an opportunity to view samples of student work and learning progress over time.
Middle School Trip to Québec
The Middle School just returned from a week long trip to Québec! They spent 4 glorious days doing winter outdoor education at Jouvence. Snow tubing, snow shoeing and meeting other students from Canada were just some of the highlights. The trip culminated in an overnight in Montreal! In the city, they enjoyed a special celebration dinner and a visit to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. All in all, it was a spectacular experience for our students and Faculty!
Upper School Performs Annie! Musical
The Vermont Day School 4ht-8th grade performed Annie! at the Black Box Theater in Burlington in late January. Not only did students perform all the classic lines and songs from this beloved musical, but they also created the choreography, sets and costumes, with guidance from our Music and Theater Director, Kendra Gratton. It was a wonderful performance all around!
January 25 – Upper School Performance of Annie, Jr. @ Black Box Theater
The VDS 4th-8th grade will present their production of the musical, Annie, at the the Black Box Theater on Thursday, January 25th (6 pm). Performers have been working hard on the lines, music, choreography, costumes and set, and it is going to be phenomenal. Tickets are $5 at the door. Hope to see you there!
