Prospective students are invited to Vermont Day School on Wednesday, May 15th (8 am – 12 pm). Our student guests will attend classes, meet teachers and new friends. June 3-7 – 8th Grade Capstone Project Presentations
Throughout the week of June 3-7, 8th graders will present their Capstone Projects to the community. Each 8th grader has chosen a topic of personal interest, such as pediatric cancer, gender equity in sports, adaptive skiing – just to name a few. Students research their topic, interview experts, and create and present an impact project to the community. Check back for updates – the Capstone Projects are impressive and a cornerstone of a VDS education for our graduates!
VDS Welcomes Food Shelf Board Members
To kick off our annual Food Drive, Vermont Day School was honored to welcome two Board Members from the Shelburne Food Shelf to our all school assembly. The Board Members spoke to students about food insecurity in Vermont and the important work of the Food Shelf in helping our community. Students asked questions and the 4th/5th grade class shared our school goal to collect 750 pounds of non-perishable food and hygiene items by the end of March. Donations can be brought to school. Representatives from the 4th/5th grade class will be in the front hall every morning at drop off (until March 28) to accept donations. Thank you in advance for supporting our Food Drive! Las Fallas Celebration!
This week, VDS Students celebrated Fallas, a traditional festival originating in Valencia, Spain. To prepare, students learned about the important traditions of this event and made creative sculptures in Art and Spanish class. At our celebration, students performed skits in Spanish, explained the significance of this holiday to audience members and let go of the sculpture they had made! It was very special day of experiential learning!
March 18-28 Annual Food Drive
For our annual Food Drive, VDS is hoping to collect 750 lbs. of food and hygiene items for the Shelburne Food Shelf. Please see the list of items needed by the Food Shelf and bring them to VDS at morning drop-off. Representatives from the 4th/5th grade class will be in the front lobby ready to accept you donations. Thank you for supporting our Food Drive and for helping our neighbors!
March 27 – Ice Skating Field Trip (K-8)
Students and teachers are looking forward to our annual K-8 field trip to go ice skating at Cairns Arena on Wednesday, March 27th. VDS Parents, please check your weekly class newsletters for field trip details! Happy skating to all!
April 6 – Middle School Open House
Prospective families with children entering grades 6th-8th in Fall 2024 are invited to visit Vermont Day School on Saturday, April 6th at 3 pm. The Open House is a wonderful opportunity to tour the school. meet staff and learn what makes Middle School at Vermont Day School unique! April 17 – Middle School Student Visit Day
Prospective middle school students entering 6th-8th grade in Fall 2024 are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 17 to experience VDS first hand! Students will attend classes, and have the opportunity to meet teachers and classmates. Please email Libby Macdonald, lmacdonald@vtdayschool.org, to register your child to attend!
April 18 – Lower School Play “Peaceful Penguin Village”
VDS PreK-3rd grade students will perform “Peaceful Penguin Village” play on Thursday, April 18th. There are two shows for parents, grandparents and guests @ 8:30 am (K/1 and 2/3) and at 9:30 am (PreK). We can’t wait for this very fun performance! Students are loving practicing the songs and lines from this very sweet show with a wonderful message!
March 1 – Merit Scholarship Applications Due
Vermont Day School is pleased to announce the addition of a Merit Scholarship program for prospective students entering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Fall 2024. One year scholarships, in the amount of $5,000, are awarded to motivated learners with strong academic skills, who exemplify the guiding principles of Vermont Day School.
Merit Scholarship Applications will be considered once all parts of a child’s application to Vermont Day School are complete, including the teacher recommendations and school visit day. Scholarship applications are due March 1st, 2024. Once complete, parent and student short answer responses should be emailed to Libby Macdonald, Director of Admissions (lmacdonald@vtdayschool.org). 2nd Annual Vermont Invention Fair
This year’s Vermont Invention Fair was full of creativity and problem-solving! The young inventors did a impressive job of coming up with an innovative idea to solve a real world problem. Congratulations to all the participants on a job well done, and an additional shout out to Shannon Capps, Theo Gonyaw and Whitaker Newton for being selected for the next round of competition at the U.S. Nationals! Thank you to Harbour Industries for being the Visionary Sponsor of the Vermont Invention Fair and to Portable Mini-Golf for providing family entertainment!
March 8 – First Friday Parent Coffee
Vermont Day School Parents are invited to join us for coffee, baked goods and casual conversation on Friday, March 8th after morning drop-off (8:00/8:15 am). We hope to see you there. All are welcome!
